The steps swirled above him in a long square spiral. The black speckled stones were slick from yesterday's rain, yet the hunched over man did not slip, did not falter, even once. His oversized feet took solid, heavy steps upon the stones, splashing quietly with each step. He lived a lonely life. Few came to visit the solitary church, much less the bell tower, though it did contain a most ornate bell, engraved with heavenly images of angels and miracles.
